The filtration of liquid sulfur is a key operation in the production sulfuric acid that used for phosphate fertilizer Morocco and elsewhere. purpose process to remove solid impurities from sulfur, which could clog burner spray nozzles, leading reduction lifetime unit. standard life cycle units 24 months, while due clogging, this can be reduced less than 18 obviously tremendous economic disadvantage. In process, precoat made diatomaceous earth usually used. work, performance filter aid was compared two commercial, inexpensive, cellulose-based aids, namely, FILTER-900 FILTER-1100, are distinguished by their respective Dalton numbers (900 Da 1100 Da). experiments were realized using an industrial device, results indicated all three aids yielded similar terms impurity content filtered sulfur. did, however, show lower specific filter-aid consumption, accompanied increase operating times 72 h. addition, use filters allowed relatively easy removal cake without damaging cloths (which often issue with aids). It further noticed obtained remained uncontaminated silicate, one main elements result clogging nozzles. first experimental data presented here therefore promising, tests as well analysis encouraged.
